This course introduces the fundamentals of FMVSS 216 and FMVSS 216a Roof Crush Analysis using an existing NHTSA LS-DYNA model. It is designed for mechanical engineers, CAE engineers, and students who want to understand the engineering principles behind roof strength evaluation and rollover safety.

The course covers the intent of the regulation, physical test setup, loading methodology, boundary conditions, and performance requirements. Learners will explore the complete LS-DYNA model in LS-PrePost, understand how the simulation is organized, and learn a systematic approach to post-processing, including deformation analysis, stress and plastic strain evaluation, reaction force interpretation, roof intrusion measurement, contact verification, and energy balance checks.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to confidently interpret roof crush simulation results, understand structural load paths, and identify opportunities for lightweight and safer vehicle design using CAE

This course introduces the fundamentals of frontal crashworthiness using FMVSS 208 and ECE R94 regulations. Participants will learn the purpose of the regulations, crash test configurations, occupant protection systems, injury criteria, and vehicle structural behaviour during frontal impacts. Using an industry-standard LS-DYNA model, the course demonstrates model organization, barrier setup, restraint systems, materials, contacts, and boundary conditions in LS-PrePost. A structured post-processing workflow covers deformation analysis, occupant kinematics, airbag and seatbelt performance, intrusion measurement, injury assessment, energy balance, and engineering interpretation. By the end of the course, learners will be able to confidently analyse frontal crash simulations and apply CAE principles to improve vehicle safety and crashworthiness.

Why Head Restraint Performance & Seat Back Strength Test?

Seating systems are critical structural safety components during rear-end collisions.

Head restraint and seat back work together as a single load-carrying system.

Proper structural performance helps reduce whiplash and excessive seat deformation.

Early CAE simulations enable engineers to optimize designs before physical testing.

Understanding load transfer is essential for designing safer seating systems.
